A meeting was held on Sunday 2nd November to discuss the Urban Flora of Scotland, the following is a summery of the points arising from the meeting provided by John Grace.


Urban Flora Of Scotland - Update On Progress

A sub-group of the Council has been meeting every month to plan our Citizen Science project, The Urban Flora of Scotland. To encourage wide participation, we will launch with a more citizen-friendly title such as The Flowers of Scotland. The title is still under discussion, and internally we are using The Urban Flora of Scotland.


Edinburgh’s First Plant Science Network Launched

New network aims to raise the profile of Edinburgh’s world class plant science research and harness the power of collaboration. The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh proved to be the perfect venue for the launch of the capital’s new network for plant science, Edinburgh Plant Science (EPS).


Winter lecture programme published

The Botanical Society of Scotland's 2014/5 Winter lecture programme has been published and can be downloaded as a pdf file here. All of the Society's lecture are free (although talks held in association with with other organisation may have a modest charge).

The society welcomes all members to the first AGM following the successful conversion of its charitable status to the new Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation or "SCIO".

Following the AGM will be the September lecture given by renowned bryologist Dr David Chamberlain - "Edinburgh’s urban ribbon: the mosses and liverworts of the Water of Leith".

A short Flora of Berwickshire by Michael Braithwaite, will be published privately in October 2014. This is the first Flora of Berwickshire since 1853 and is the culmination of 35 seasons field - recording by the author with help from local and visiting botanists together with extensive research into historical records.
