New species of dandelion (Taraxacum pankhurstianum) found on St Kilda

Location

Hirta

A new species of dandelion has been discovered on the island of Hirta in St Kilda archipelago. The plant was first collected by Jim McIntosh, BSBI Scottish Officer, on recording trip to St Kilda two years ago. It was then grown at the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh from achenes and described by Prof John Richards.


Two Society publications made available on-line for the first time

The Botanical Society of Scotland is please to announce that two of the Society's publications made available on-line for the first time, through the Biodiversity Heritage Library and the Internet Archive, as part of the Society's 175 anniversary celebrations.


Invitation To Keen Photographers

striking picture for the front page. We are looking for a photograph, in
portrait orientation, of a single plant or a small group of plants that are
characteristic of the Scottish flora. We cannot use the Scots primrose

Congratulations to Professor Roy Watling

In the inaugural "RSPB Nature of Scotland Awards", Professor Roy Watling has received an 'Outstanding Contribution to Nature Award' for a lifetime of inspiring the public about fungi. Roy is a long standing member of the Society and was President from 1984-86.
