Plant Ecology and Diversity has been accepted for inclusion in Scopus, after evaluation by independent reviewers. Scopus, is "the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature and quality web sources in the world".

The Call for Symposia is open! Proposals for general symposia are now sought. For convenience, six broad themes have been identified for the submission of symposium proposals. Symposia covering more than one theme are welcomed and encouraged.


Success for the journal!

Our new scientific journal, Plant Ecology & Diversity, has been selected for inclusion in the Journal Citation Reports and the Science Citation Index already.

This is a very fast acceptance and might lead to the award of an impact factor by 2011.

New Year Honours!

Congratulations to Professor Mary Gibby, Director of Science at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, who receives an OBE for ‘Services to Botany’.

Changes in Local Secretaries

The Local Secretaries in Dundee and Inverness, Professor John Raven and Mrs. Margaret Barron, respectively, have indicated their wish to retire after many years in their posts.

Thanks to them both for all their work on behalf of the BSS. We are currently seeking replacements.

Liz Pilling

BSS members will be sad to learn that Liz Pilling, recently of the RBGE & BSS, died on 10th November, 2009.

Co-options to Council

At the meeting of the BSS Council on 24th September, 2009, the following co-options were made:

  • Vice-President: Dr. Barbara Sumner
  • Councillors: Dr. Jill Thompson and Mr. Derek Christie.

Newsletter for the BHL

The Biodiversity Heritage Library for Europe (BHL-Europe) is a project involving 26 major European natural history museum libraries and botanical garden libraries and two libraries from the United States. The project started in May, 2009, and will last for three years.
